Ruckus began only four years ago in Louisville, Kentucky as a dream to fill an urgent need for meaningful writing and criticism about art. It is imperative to highlight the distinctive work being done in the South and Midwest as an integral part of the artistic landscape in the U.S.

We see art discourse by-and-for folks in the South and Midwest as an incredible opportunity, and we believe in supporting writers invested in the rich diversity of their communities. Funding the kind of work we do across state lines is very challenging, largely because the channels we seek to build are a first of their kind.

That’s why, as a part of our first steps in this expanded mission, Ruckus is asking for help during your end of year giving to raise $5,000 that will go exclusively towards paying BIPOC authors in our region in 2022. Every $250 we raise will fund a new piece of writing and expand our network of writers within the region.

As Ruckus continues to reckon with what collectivity truly means and move toward intentional frameworks of justice and equity, it is crucial to uplift voices and stories in our unique region.
